Loved this. Two historians discuss the tension between gold standard and paper currency, specifically as it relates to race. Does a currency have intrinsic value or does the government create that value? The Confederacy was for the gold standard and believed white people had an intrinsic value. The Union switched to greenbacks and had a more egalitarian approach to race. (The convo starts around 17 mins) They also touch on this tension in modern America.
