Matt Midboe updated his status.

HBO’s The Newsroom has an episode where their news show has to decide whether to follow NPR’s lead and announce Gabby Giffords is dead after she is shot. I haven’t been that riveted by a TV scene since the junkyard standoff on Breaking Bad when Hank is trying to argue his way into an RV without a warrant (or maybe Lorne Malvo’s weird philosophizing on Fargo).

Then I thought something must be wrong with me if the abstract process parts of these stories are the ones that really grab me. Where does that defect come from? I blame my work. Everything is abstract. It must take a toll on a person to spend so much time thinking about the thing that makes the thing that makes the thing, etc. Instead of the thing itself.
